MUKONO WATCH INVESTIGATION
A 4-kilometer stretch along the feeder road linking Kyampisi sub-county headquarters to Kasawo trading center has deteriorated into deep mud gullies following three consecutive weeks of torrential downpours, leaving matooke and dairy farmers virtually isolated.
Mukono District Media surveillance field reporters documented over 15 grounded cargo trucks and numerous boda-boda accidents at the Namuyenje swamp crossing, where culverts installed four years ago have completely collapsed under sediment buildup.
"Every week we pay municipal taxes on agricultural produce, but our trucks cannot cross this swamp. We are forced to hire youth to carry sacks of sweet potatoes on foot for two kilometers to reach the drier tarmac," lamented resident farmer Sarah Nakato.
District Council Watch: In the approved Mukono District Works & Technical Services annual workplan, this road segment was allocated UGX 45 million for spot murram gravelling. However, field surveillance confirms that no contractor has mobilized on site since the commencement of the quarter.
