The Katosi fish landing site in Mukono South is slated for a comprehensive UGX 14 billion modernisation facelift, promising to address decades-old post-harvest losses and sanitary concerns that have constrained local artisanal fishermen along Lake Victoria's northern shoreline.
During an inspection tour conducted yesterday by the district fisheries technical committee alongside community cooperative leaders, engineers revealed that the works will encompass a 20-tonne daily capacity solar cold-storage facility, standardized stainless-steel filleting slabs, and improved water reticulation networks.
"For years, our fishermen have lost up to 35% of their daily catch due to inadequate chilling systems before transport vehicles arrive from Kampala. This overhaul puts the power back into the hands of local boat owners," noted Ssalongo Moses Mukasa, chairman of the Katosi Fish Handlers Cooperative.
Mukono District Media surveillance teams verified that heavy grading machinery is already prepositioned near the gazetted harbor front. Phase one, targeting shoreline reinforcement and bio-sanitary drainage, is scheduled for completion within the next five months.

Outstanding investigative reporting. Mukono Municipality leadership needs to take immediate action on these drainage channels before the heavy rains resume in October.
